Today, Amazon introduced the Echo Dot Gen 5 Alexa intelligent speaker in India. According to the company, the latest Echo Dot provides superior audio quality, with twice the bass compared to its predecessor, and incorporates a range of new sensors, such as those for temperature sensing, all within a familiar, lightweight, and compact body.

The Echo Dot Gen 5 is available for purchase at a price of Rs 5,499, but as part of Alexa’s 5-year anniversary celebrations in India, Amazon has announced that it will offer the intelligent speaker at an introductory price of Rs 4,999 for a limited period.

The Echo Dot Gen 5 comes with a redesigned audio architecture that includes a custom full-range driver and the highest excursion speaker of any Echo Dot, resulting in clear vocals and up to double the bass of the previous generation model. Despite being one of the smallest speakers in Amazon’s lineup at the time of writing, it remains to be seen how it performs in real-world usage.
This new generation of Echo Dot also features ultrasound motion detection and a temperature sensor, allowing it to activate compatible lights or play music when you enter the room, as well as turn your supported air conditioner on or off based on room temperature. Additionally, the built-in accelerometer allows for simple touch controls, such as pausing and resuming music, dismissing timers, or ending Alexa-to-Alexa calls with a tap on the top of the speaker.
Amazon claims that the Echo Dot Gen 5’s AZ2 Neural Edge processor allows it to process more experiences on the edge, resulting in faster and potentially more secure responses.
