After unveiling the OnePlus 11 series earlier this year, OnePlus is preparing to launch its first foldable smartphone. During the OnePlus 11 launch event, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer teased the audience about “something phenomenal.” Subsequently, the unveiling of the OnePlus 11 Concept smartphone at the MWC 2023 led to OnePlus COO Kinder Liu discussing the company’s plans to release foldable phones.
Liu confirmed that OnePlus plans to launch its first foldable smartphone in the second half of 2023, which will also be a flagship phone, similar to other top products in the company’s portfolio. According to Liu, this is why OnePlus has refrained from releasing any foldable phones in the past, as the company wanted to release the best one. Liu shared this information in an interview with TechCrunch.
At the MWC 2023 press conference, the COO of OnePlus confirmed that the company’s upcoming foldable smartphone will feature the signature fast and smooth experience characteristic of OnePlus devices. According to Kinder Liu, the phone must be a flagship device that excels in all aspects, including industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. OnePlus wants to release a device that offers the best possible foldable phone experience in the current market.
While Oppo, OnePlus’ parent company, recently launched its own foldable smartphone, the Find N2 Flip, Liu hinted that OnePlus’ first foldable phone may take the form of a Fold format phone, as he pushed his hands together and opened them like a book during a discussion with TechCrunch. In other news, OnePlus released its latest phone, the OnePlus 11R 5G, which is available in two colors, Sonic Black and Galactic Silver, and features the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset. The phone is priced at Rs 39,999, with the top model costing Rs 44,999.

According to the 9to5Google website, In the past, OnePlus has been hesitant to venture into the foldable phone market, but it appears that the brand is now ready to take the plunge. According to a tweet from the reliable source Max J, the first OnePlus foldable phone will be released in 2023, with multiple foldable products slated for that year.
It is unclear what specific features and designs will be included in these foldable devices, but since OnePlus falls under Oppo’s umbrella, it is likely that any OnePlus foldable will be based on an Oppo foldable, such as the successor to the Oppo Find N, which is expected to be released around the same time.
With multiple foldable devices in the works, there will be a range of options available, from the higher-priced Galaxy Z Fold style to the lower-cost Galaxy Z Flip form factor, which has proven to be quite popular. However, it is uncertain whether all of these devices will be available in the US market, as OnePlus may focus more heavily on the Chinese market under Oppo’s leadership.
Regardless, it is exciting to see OnePlus embracing foldable technology and potentially bringing Oppo’s high-quality hardware to more countries in the future.
